Update from the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development

The Legislative Council Finance Committee held special meetings last week to examine the Government's Estimates of Expenditure 2024-25. The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Algernon Yau, has outlined at the meeting the key tasks under his bureau in the current financial year. There are four main areas, including:

(1) To complement the National 14th Five-Year Plan in enhancing Hong Kong’s status as an international trade centre;
(2) To promote participation in and contribution to the Belt and Road (B&R) Initiative;
(3) To support for Hong Kong to develop into a regional intellectual property (IP) trading centre;
(4) To create stronger impetus for Hong Kong’s economic development.
