The Putonghua (Mandarin) Foundation Course is a New Approach to the learning of Putonghua only available in the Communication Group. The Course will provide an understanding of the structure of Putonghua based on participants’ knowledge of the structure of English. The Course does NOT start with learning the tones of Putonghua. It is a more effective method to start with understanding the basic structures of Putonghua; then all you need to do is slot in the vocabulary. You can pick up the tones as you practise the language in “real-life” situations just as intonation is acquired and improved in any language.

The Course focuses on equipping participants with the necessary language skills to cope with a series of common situations in their business and social lives such as Making Introductions in Social and Business Situations, Asking for and Providing Information, Leaving Phone Messages, and Arranging Appointments. The Course also provides ways to communicate with Chinese people so that they will respond warmly to you and the most precise and polite Putonghua for use in effective daily communication. Avoid “faux pas” in Putonghua!
